CozZo 1.3 helps you in winning the costly food labeling game

Food waste statistics call for a radical change in our perception of product expiry. We explained the problem with date misinterpretation and designed CozZo with an idea that an estimate, based on individual storage conditions and past experience is the best starting point for “best by” tracking. In past month we asked our amazing Facebook community for feedback on our ideas and delivered all requests in CozZo 1.3, nicknamed “Caesar Salad”:

“Last Quantity” info bar. Finding the right quantity to buy in CozZo 1.2 has been assisted by detailed information about the last product run in a textual format. At the supermarket, the time often does not allow for reading it and it was ineffective.

We simplified and visualised the information shown under the quantity controls – on the left, there is the last quantity bought. On the right – time, taken for the product to be finished or amount of wasted product.  The bar itself proportionally shows how much of a product has gone bad, if any.

Making the right call for putting a product on your meal plan or throwing it in the bin has become a lot easier with the new  “Due time” info bar.  For overdue products, it shows visually (and as days on the right) that if a product that has been good for a month it is most likely to still be OK for a day or two more.  For ones that still have time, you can see how much is left in comparison with the total time and purchase date (on the left).

Undoubtedly, the most requested feature was a list of products that are consumed. This information is collected by CozZo on every “Finished” action and until now, was not exposed in the app. We made a complete re-design in our “Wasted” page and added the Finished products month-by-month report alongside the existing “Wasted” one. Each row can be selected, which updates the chart to reflect the month and brings up a detailed list of products.

The detailed lists for both Finished and Wasted products were also re-designed for better visual clarity and usefulness.

Oh, and we renamed all of it to “Journal” – it gives now a complete picture of what goes in and out of a household and makes long-term meal planning a lot easier.

We’d like to thank everyone that participated in our Facebook poll: Jenny Hall, Beth Brincat, Marti Jeremiah-Shelley, Nicole Lee, Gany Dineva, Lucy Welsh, Sue Lawrenson, Tereza Martinovská, Lucy Helen Probert, Sarah Bennett, Jaiden Kyra, Keryn Potts, Динко Иванов and Morgan Bagshaw.
